Similary,whenaskingafriendforasmallfavour,saypouringyouasoda,there’snoneedtobeoverlypolite.Insteadofsaying你nǐ可kě以yǐ给gěi我wǒ一yì杯bēi可kě乐lè吗ma??(Couldyougivemeaglassofcola?)itismoreappropriatetosay: Thereasoningisthatyouarefriendswhohaveacloserelationship,sothereisnoneedtobetoocourteous.Infact,beingtoopolitetowardsChinesefriendsmaymakethemthinkyoudon’treallyregardthemasfriends.
