Plot[edit] AftertheinvasionofForgeWorldGraiabyOrks,ImperialmilitarycommandersconsidervariousmethodstoregaincontrolofGraia,especiallysincethelossofGraia'sindustrialoutputhasgreatlyaffectedlocalImperialwar-makingcapabilities.Intheend,itisdecidedtodeployagroupofSpaceMarinesoftheUltramarineschaptertoreinforcelocalImperialforces. Initiallyuponarrival,thesquadprovidesassistancetotheoutnumberedandoverrunImperialGuardregimentsfightingontheplanet'ssurface,whichafterthelossinbattleofallhigher-rankingofficersarenowbeingledbythesolesurvivingjuniorofficer,SecondLieutenantMiranda'Mira'Nero;sheinformsTitusofthepresentsituationandbrieflyaccompaniesthesquadtotheirnextengagement.Titusagreestosilencethecapturedplanetarydefensecannon,whichhasbeenpreventingsupplyshipsfromreachingthebeleaguereddefenders.Thisdone,MirathankstheSpaceMarinesandcontinuestohelpTitushowevershecanoverthecourseofthegame,amidstre-organizingtheremainingImperialGuardforcesandattemptingtoholdthemajorityoftheinvadinghordesatbayuntilthedelayedreinforcementfleetarrives.TheSpaceMarinesthenmoveontocontinuewiththeirownmissionand,amidstsecuringtheTitanInvictus(oneofaclassofgiant,bipedalwarmachinesthatareproducedprimarilyonGraiaandtheprincipalreasonfortheUltramarines'deploymentthere),answeradistresscallfromtheinjuredImperialInquisitorDrogan,fromwhomtheylearnofaweaponthatcanwipeouttheOrks,butwhichneedsapowersourcethatislocatedinareactorbelowtheManufactorum.TitusretrievesitandactivatesthePsychicScourge,buttheOrksarenotkilled.Instead,aWarpgatetothepsychicrealmofChaosisopened,unleashingseveraldaemonsthatmassacrethesurroundingOrks.Momentslater,theChaosLordNemerothemergesfromtheportal.UsinghisWarppowers,hesubduestheSpaceMarinesquadasInquisitorDroganarrivesvialiftandapproachesNemeroth,revealinghisallegiancetotheChaosLord.ItisthenrevealedthatDroganwaskilledatsomepointpriortomeetingTitusandhiscorpsewaspossessedandusedbyNemerothasasleeperagent.TitusgathersenoughstrengthtograbthePowerSource,whichhadbeenejectedfromtheScourge,andNemerothisambushedbyGrimskull,theOrkWarbossinchargeoftheirinvasionofGraia,allowingtheSpaceMarinestoescape. TheScourgeopensagrowingWarpportalaroundtheOrbitalSpire,allowingChaosforcestopourin;seeingthis,TitusformsaplantodestroytheportalandtheSpirebyusingoneoftheTitanstheyhadsecuredearlier(theiroriginalmission).TheTitanInvictusisbroughttofullactivationbythePowerSource,anddestroystheSpire.However,SidonusiskilledbyNemeroth,thePowerSourceisstolenandtakentothefloatingremainsoftheSpire. Thereinforcementfleetnowhavingfinallyarrived,includingacompanyofBloodRavensSpaceMarines,therestofTitus'scompanyandlargenumbersofImperialGuard,TitusleadstheminanattackthroughtheremainingChaosforcestostopNemerothfromperformingaritualtoascendtothestatusofaDaemonPrinceusingthepowerofthedevice.NemerothhaspartiallyascendedtoDaemonhoodwhenTitusfinallyfaceshimagain;bothareknockedoffthespireinthestruggle,andtheCaptaindefeatshiminsinglecombatwhilefallingtowardstheground.Hethenbreakstheexperimentaldeviceinhalfwithhishands.TitussurvivestheexposuretotherawWarpenergyagain,andisrescuedbyaThunderhawkdropshipbeforehecanimpacttheground. TheendsceneofthegameinvolvesanewImperialInquisitorbythenameofThrax,accompaniedbyLeandrosandescortedbyseveralBlackTemplarSpaceMarines,whoplacesTitusunderarrest.LeandrosbelievesthathisCaptainhasbeencorruptedbyChaosbasedonTitus’resistancetowarpenergies.TitusdeniesaccusationsofheresyandisbackedupinthisbyLieutenantMirawhoalsoproteststheaccusation,butTituswarnshertobackdown,knowingtheextentoftheInquisition'swrath.TitusiswillingtofindthecauseofhisownmysteriousresistancetoChaos,andvoluntarilygoeswithInquisitorThraxontheconditionthattheInquisitionleavestheplanet,itsinhabitants(includingMira)andhisfellowUltramarinesalone.Beforetakingofffromtheplanet,TituschastisesLeandrosforhissinglemindedfollowingoftheCodexAstartes,andhisinabilitytoseepastitandthinkforhimself-somethingTitusbelievesisthetruetestofaSpaceMarine. AcomputerisedreportinImperialrecordsshowsthatthethreatonGraiahasbeencontained.TheplanetisunderquarantinebyorderofInquisitorThrax,andTitusisunderinvestigationbytheInquisitiononchargesofheresy.
