Classic Story Map Transition Timeline (August 2021) - Esri

Get the latest update on when the Classic Esri Story Maps templates will transition to the later phases of the support lifecycle. Sincethen,wehavebeenexcitedbyhowquicklythecommunityhasadoptedArcGISStoryMaps.Membersofthestorytellingcommunityarecreatingseveralthousandstorieseveryday,andmorethan80percentofthosearecreatedwithArcGISStoryMaps!Thatmeanslessthan20percentarecreatedwithalltheclassictemplatescombined.YoucanseethesteadyincreaseintheadoptionofArcGISStoryMapsfromthegraphbelow.  WhyaresomanypeopleusingArcGISStoryMaps?Allthepopularstorytellingpatternsandfeaturesfromtheclassictemplateshavebeenincorporatedintoitsunified,modernbuilder,andit’supdatedwithnewenhancementseverymonth.ArcGISStoryMapsalsooffersmanyusefulcapabilitiesthatwereneveravailableintheclassictemplates,suchasexpressmaps,timelines,customthemes,readeranalytics,collections,autosave,draftmode,andmuchmore!   Whohasmadetheswitch?  Manyorganizationshavealreadymadetheswitchandarepublishinggorgeous,engagingstoriesusingArcGISStoryMaps.Belowaresomeimpressivestoriespublishedbylargeandsmallorganizations,andtherearemanymoreexamplesyoucanbrowsethroughintheArcGISStoryMapscommunitygallery. TheclassictemplatesaremovingtothelaterphasesoftheEsriSupportLifecycle.Althoughtheywillstillbeavailableandgenerallycontinuetoworkforsometime,theywillhavefewermaintenanceandsupportresourcesdevotedtothem. IntheupcomingSeptember2021releaseofArcGISOnline,theclassictemplateswillmovetotheextendedsupportphaseoftheEsriProductLifecycle.Note:Thistransitiontoextendedsupportwasannouncedin2019andwasoriginallysettotakeplaceinJuly2021. IntheDecember2021releaseofArcGISOnline,theclassictemplateswillberemovedfromtheArcGISOnlineConfigurableAppsGallery.Youwillstillbeabletocreatestoriesfromaclassictemplate’sitempage,butusingtemplatesinextendedsupportisnotrecommendedforlong-termprojects.   Whatdoesextendedsupportmean?  ExtendedsupportisastandardtermusedbyEsritodescribealaterphaseintheproductlifecycleofitsproducts.Fulldetailscanbefoundhere,buttheimportantpiecesofinformationtoknowastheyrelatetotheclassicEsriStoryMapstemplatesarelistedbelow.
