Jumptomaincontent Jumptositesearch Issue15,2020 PreviousArticle NextArticle Fromthejournal: DaltonTransactions Rapidinsitugrowthofβ-Ni(OH)2nanosheetarraysonnickelfoamasanintegratedelectrodeforsupercapacitorsexhibitinghighenergydensity† Jingbo Li, ‡a   Yu Liu, ‡ab   Wei Cao ‡a  and  Nan Chen*a   Authoraffiliations * Correspondingauthors a SchoolofMaterialsScienceandEngineering,NanchangUniversity,Nanchang330031,China E-mail: [email protected] b SchoolofScience,NanchangInstituteofTechnology,Nanchang330099,China Abstract Ni(OH)2hasbeenwidelyinvestigatedasaprospectiveelectrodematerialbecauseofitshightheoreticalcapacitanceandrelativelylowcost.Howeveritssynthesisusuallyneedsacomplexandlengthyprocess,andabinderisgenerallyusedforfabricatingNi(OH)2basedelectrodes.Inthiswork,aself-supportingbinder-freeβ-Ni(OH)2@nickelfoam(NF)integratedelectrodewaspreparedbytheinsitugrowthofβ-Ni(OH)2onNFusingarapidandfacileapproach.Thisapproachconsistsoftwoprocessingsteps:(1)thepre-treatmentofNFwithanacidand(2)thequickinsituelectrochemicalsynthesisofβ-Ni(OH)2ontheNFintheKOHelectrolytewithinhalfaminuteunderanappliedvoltage.Theβ-Ni(OH)2@NFintegratedelectrodepossessesathree-dimensionalnetworkstructureofnanosheetarraysandexhibitsexcellentelectrochemicalperformance.Itsarealcapacityis3.68mAhcm−2atacurrentdensityof2mAcm−2,andthecapacitycanretain115.8%ofitsinitialvalueevenafter2000cyclesatacurrentdensityof15mAcm−2.Moreover,theas-assembledβ-Ni(OH)2@NF//activatedcarbon(AC)asymmetricsupercapacitor(ASC)exhibitsahighenergydensityof74.2Whkg−1withapowerdensityof776.9Wkg−1andexcellentcyclingstability(89.9%retainedafter10 000cycles).Thisworkprovidesanefficient,facileandeconomicmethodforfabricatingNi(OH)2basedintegratedelectrodesforhigh-performancesupercapacitors.
