Contents 1Gameplay 2Development 3Reception 4References 5Externallinks Gameplay[edit] Thegameisdesignedtobeplayedwithatleasttwoplayers,withoneplayerasthe"Defuser",playingthegameonadevice(supportingbothkeyboardandmouse,touchscreenandgamepadcontrols,aswellassupportforvirtualrealityheadsets),andtheremainingplayersasthe"Experts"readingtheprovidedbombdefusalmanual.[3][4]Asdesigned,theDefusercannotlookatthemanualandmustrelyontheExpertstoinstructthem;similarly,theExpertscannotseethebomb,andmustrelyontheDefusertodescribethebombtothem.TheExpertsandtheDefusercancommunicatewitheachothereitherdirectlyfromacrossatable,oronlineusingaseparatevoiceservice. Eachbombinthegameconsistsofmultiplemodules;themodulesareindependentofeachotherandcanbedisarmedinanyorder.[5]Mostmodulesrequiredisarming,withthebombsuccessfullydisarmedwhenallsuchmodulesaresuccessfullydisarmed.DisarmingthesemodulesrequirestheDefusertorelayvisualindicatorstotheExperts,whothenusethemanualtodeterminewhatactionstheDefusertotake.Othermodulesare"needy":theycannotbedisarmed,anddemandperiodicattentiontopreventthemfromcausingastrikewhilethebombisstillarmed.Eachbombwillalsohaveacountdowntimer;ifthetimerreacheszero,thebombwillexplode.Bombswillalsohaveamaximumnumberofstrikesresultingfromerrorsmadeduringdefusing(alsospeedingthetimer),andifthatmaximumisreached,thebombwillalsoexplode.OtherobstaclestotheDefuserincludethelightsinthevirtualroomgoingoutmomentarily,andalarmclocksthatwilldistracttheDefuser.[citationneeded] Modulesusecomplexinstructionsetsandpuzzle-likeelementstobesolved,andthedefusinginstructionsaregenerallyconditionalontheconfigurationoftheparticularmodule;forexample,theExpertsmayneedtoguidetheDefuserthroughamazewhosewallstheDefusercannotsee,butasthemanualhasmapsforanumberofmazes,theDefusermusthelptheExpertidentifywhichmapiscurrentlyapplicableforthatgivenmodule.[5]Somemodulesdeliberatelymakeverbalcommunicationcomplicated:someuseunusualglyphsthatrequiredescription,othermodulesusewordsthatmaybehomophonesofothersimilarwords("sees"to"seas"),verbaltics("uhhh"or"uhhuh")orcommonwordsthatwouldbeotherwiseusedinthatsituation("press"or"left")thatcouldeasilybeconfusedduringcommunicationbetweenDefuserandExperts.[5]ManymoduleshavemultiplestagesthatrequiretheExpertstokeeptrackofpastactionsastheyworkthrougheachstage.Defusingsomemodulesmayalsodependonthestateofthebombsuchashowmanystrikesitpresentlyhas,orexternaldecorationsonthebombliketheserialnumberorthepresenceofbatteries.[5] Thegameisbrokenupintoanumberofpredeterminedlevelsbrokenupintoskillgroupingsthatsetthenumberandtypesofmodules,thetimetodefusethebomb,andthemaximumnumberofstrikes.Eachlevelwillgeneratethebombanditsmodulestobedefusedinaproceduralmanner.[6]Playersalsocancreateacustomchallengebasedonmodulecount,time,andstrikes.
