ApartfromthenewandEnhancedClassruleformatandtheoptionalEnhancedSystemnotation,thereleaseincludestheindustry’sfirstsetofrequirementsformanagedpressuredrillingsystemsandfunctionbasedWinterizationRules. Advanceddrillingtechniquessuchasmanagedpressuredrilling,asystemforcontrollingthemudpressureinthereservoir,arebecomingmoreprevalentonfloatingoffshoreunits.“Suchsystemscanbesafetycritical,andnostandardsorappropriatedesigncodesfortheirsafedevelopmentanduseexisteduntilnow,”saysMrVareide.“Thenewstandardincludesrequirementsformanagedpressuredrillingsystems,definitionsofassociatedsafetysystemsandrequirementsforwellbarriersanddrawworks.” AsecondindustryfirstinthereleaseisintheformofthefunctionbasedrequirementsinthenewDNVOffshoreStandardOS-A201WinterizationforColdClimate.“Wehaveintroducedfunctionalandperformance-basedrequirementstoenhancethepreviouslyprescriptiverules.Thisallowsownersgreaterflexibilitywhenselectingthewinterizationlevelandwinterizationtemperature,”saysMrVareide.
