DummyandDefaultProfitCenters Definition DummyProfitCenter Acentraldefaultvalueineachcontrollingareathatisappliedwhenpostingsaremadetoanaccountassignmentobjectforwhichnoprofitcenterhasbeenassigned.Youcanestablishwhichobjectsarenotassignedtoprofitcentersbyanalyzingthepostingsassignedtothedummyprofitcenter.Youcanuseassessmentordistributiontomovedatafromthedummyprofitcentertothedesiredprofitcenters. DefaultProfitCenters Profitcentersthat,insteadofreflectinganorganizationalareaofresponsibility,areusedtocollectcosts,revenues,orpostingsmadetobalancesheetaccountswithinapostingperiod.Attheendofaperiod,youcanuseassessmentordistributiontomovedatafromthedefaultprofitcentertothedesiredprofitcenters. Defaultprofitcentersarealsoreferredtoasclearingprofitcenters. Unlikethedummyprofitcenter,defaultprofitcenterscanbederivedusingotherdetails(seethesection“Structure”below). Use YouportrayProfitCenterAccountingaspartofnewGeneralLedgerAccounting,thatis,thescenario ProfitCenterUpdate isassignedtoatleastoneofyourledgersinnewGeneralLedgerAccounting.Ifthisisthecase,thenthefollowingholds: UnlikeinProfitCenterAccounting,itis not necessaryinnewGeneralLedgerAccountingtocreateoruseadummyprofitcenter.Whenpostingsaremadetoaccountassignmentobjectsthatarenotassignedtoaprofitcenter,noprofitcenterisusedforthepostings,thatis,the Profit Center fieldremainsemptyinthecorrespondinglineitems.Aswithpostingsmadetodummyprofitcenters,youcanuseassessmentordistributiontoforwardpostingsmadewithoutaprofitcentertothedesiredprofitcenters.  RecommendationIfyouhavecreatedadummyprofitcenter,werecommendthatyoudonotuseitdeliberatelyasadefaultprofitcenter.Forsuchcases,defineseparateprofitcenters. Ifyouuse documentsplitting ,theuseofadummyprofitcentercanevenproduceundesiredeffects.Forexample,documentsplittingdistributespayablestothedummyprofitcenterwhennoprofitcenterisassignedtotheaccountassignmentsoftherelevantexpenseitems.Itissubsequentlynotpossibletomanuallytransferthepayables.  RecommendationIfyouhaveactivateddocumentsplittingforprofitcenters,werecommendthatyoudo not usedummyprofitcenters. Ifyouwanttoensurethataprofitcenterisassignedinalllineitems,youcanspecifyinCustomizingthatthe Profit Center fieldisarequiredentryfield.Note,however,thatthesystemthenterminateswheneverpostingsaremadetoaccountassignmentobjectstowhichnoprofitcenterhasbeenassignedandtheerrormessage“Balancingfield“ProfitCenter”isnotfilledinlineitem”isissued. IfyoustilluseclassicProfitCenterAccountingalongsidenewGeneralLedgerAccounting,youhavetocreateadummyprofitcenter. Structure DummyProfitCenter Youshouldnotintentionallyusethedummyprofitcenterasaclearingprofitcenter(thatis,youshouldnotassigndataintentionallytoyourdummyprofitcenterforthepurposeofallocatingitlater).Forsuchcases,defineseparateprofitcenters. YoucreatemasterdataforthedummyprofitcenterinCustomizingfor FinancialAccounting(New) under  GeneralLedgerAccounting(New)MasterDataProfitCenterCreateDummyProfitCenter . Thedummyprofitcentersharesthesamestructureasotherprofitcenters.Theonlydifferenceisthat,inthecaseofadummyprofitcenter,the Dummy Profit Center indicatorissetintheCustomizingsettingsoftheprofitcentermasterdata. Aswithotherprofitcenters,youcanchangeanddisplaythedummyprofitcenterintheapplicationmenu. DefaultProfitCenters Youcreatethemasterdatafordefaultprofitcentersinthesamewayasyoucreatethemasterdataforyour"real"profitcenters.Formoreinformation,see CreatingProfitCenters(IndividualProcessing) . Defaultprofitcenterssharethesamestructureasotherprofitcenters.
