本文從類型分析(genericanalysis)的觀點來看，在台灣環保抗爭運動中，新聞如何來呈現環保抗爭活動；所謂的類型是指一群在結構及內容上具有相似特性的訊息，且會使受眾產生某種期待。

類型研究主要的工作在於陳述論述中所具有的相似點並加以解釋，亦即探索在類似的論述情境下，所重複出現的類型特性。

此外，由於記者在搜集新聞時有所謂的「新聞價值」的存在；記者對環保抗爭新聞的報導，也就因為記者對「新聞價值」的選擇而有類型的出現。

結果發現，記者在報導環保抗爭新聞時，對於「抗爭者」(抗議的民眾)的身份描述都是不清楚的、不易辨識的，通常會以「當地民眾」帶過；對於「抗爭者」的內容描述通常是以個人的經驗為主。

相對於「被抗爭者」(被抗議的廠方)，記者對其身份的報導是清楚的、易辨識的，通常以「某某經理、發言人」表示；對於其內容的描述是理性的、科學的。
