核燃料能量密度比較高，故核電廠所使用的燃料體積小，運輸與儲存都很方便。

核能發電的成本中，燃料費用所佔的比例較低，故運作成本較低。

核能發電只需要利用很少的燃料來產生巨大的電力，而核電站常用的核燃料是從鈾元素提煉出來。

鈾來主要來自大自然，它存在於地殼中，含量比金和銀元素還高，可經採礦取得。

使用核能發電可以減少我們對化石燃料的依賴。

缺點 核電廠的反應器內有大量的放射性物質，如果在事故中釋放到外界環境，會對生態及民眾造成傷害。

核能發電廠熱效率較低，因而比一般化石燃料電廠排放更多廢熱到環境裏，故核電廠的熱污染較嚴重。

核電廠會產生高低階放射性廢料。

使用過之核燃料，雖然體積不大，但因具有放射線，故必須慎重處理。

核電廠投資成本太大，電力公司的財務風險較高。

興建核電廠較易引發政治歧見紛爭。
