KoonibbaTestRange TheKoonibbaTestRangeislocated40kmnorth-westofCedunaontheWestCoastoftheEyrePeninsula,SouthAustralia.InSeptember2020,forthefirsttimeinAustralia’shistory,thesitefacilitatedthesuccessfullaunchoftwocommercialspace-capablerockets. Extendingacross145kmofuninhabitednationalpark,thelaunchsitespecialisesinsuborbitallaunchesprovidingcompanieswiththeabilitytorecoverrocketsandtheirpayloadtodofurthertestingandsystemsvalidationbeforelaunchingintoorbit,whichcanbedonefromtheSouthernLaunchWhalersWayOrbitalLaunchFacility. ViewtheKoonibbaTestRangeontheSouthernLaunchwebsite. WhalersWayOrbitalLaunchComplex LocatedonthetipoftheEyrePeninsula,theWhalersWayOrbitalLaunchComplexisafacilitybeingdeveloped(subjecttofinalapproval)bySouthernLaunchtosupportorbitallaunchesintothehighlysoughtafterpolarandsunsynchronousorbits.Located680kmfromAdelaide,thesiteisashort32kmfromthemajortownshipofPortLincoln. Covering1200hectares,thesite,ifapproved,willbetheonlycommercial,multi-usersitethatoffersproximitytoestablishedindustryinfrastructurethatcansupportrocketlaunches,goodyear-roundweatherandunhinderedsouthwardlaunchtrajectoriesacrossunpopulatedareaswithlowdensityairandnauticaltrafficlanes. Withplanstofacilitatethelaunchinfrastructureneededforrocketandsatellitemanufacturerstolaunchtheirrocketswithin48hours’notice,thesitewillusherinthenewparadigmforJust-In-Timespaceaccess. SouthernLaunchreceivedapprovalfortheconstructionofinfrastructuretosupportatestlaunchcampaigninJune2021,followedbyalaunchfacilitylicenceawardedinJuly2021bytheAustralianSpaceAgencytosupportthegrowthofAustralia’scivilspacesector.
